Conducts Apply To Students At All Times

The Principal determines appropriate responses to misconduct and works with teachers and parents to ensure behaviours improve. Decisions consider past grades, attendance, behaviour, and input from staff.

Some behaviours are strictly prohibited and may require a recommendation for expulsion.

When Serious Misconduct Occurs (Possible 10-Day Suspension / Reassignment / Expulsion)

  • The Principal will immediately stop the incident.
  • Students will have an opportunity to explain what happened.
  • If misconduct may result in reassignment or expulsion, parents will be notified as soon as possible (first time: YELLOW CARD).
  • The Principal may ask the student for a written statement.
  • If the behaviour involves violence, parents will be notified through a PINK CARD.
  • Parents will be informed clearly about the offence and next steps.

Suspension

  • Students may be suspended for up to 10 days, depending on the severity of the offence.
  • During suspension, students may not participate in any school activity and may be required to attend an intervention session.
  • Work will be provided and must be completed and returned.
  • Parents must collect assignments or arrange for another student to bring them.
  • A student posing immediate danger or disruption will receive a RED CARD and be removed from school at once.
  • Parents will be notified and given a chance to respond promptly.

When a Student Is Suspended, the School Will:

  • Inform the student of the suspension.
  • Make every effort to notify parents and arrange the child’s return home.
  • Send written notice (same day or next day) detailing the reason and duration of the suspension.

Additional Consequences

  • Students returning from suspension or facing expulsion may have continuing behavioural expectations.
  • Completing missed work and showing knowledge of lessons demonstrates readiness to rejoin the school community.

Authorized Disciplinary Measures

  • Private counselling or admonition
  • After-school detention (with parent notification)
  • Temporary suspension of privileges: parking, senior privileges, teams, clubs, and activities

Authorized Interventions

  • Re-teaching expected behaviour
  • Student–teacher conference
  • Parent conference
  • Parent shadowing the student for a day
  • Peer mediation
  • Behaviour contract
  • Conflict resolution with a counsellor

Conduct on School Buses

General Standards

Bus transportation is an extension of the school day.

The same behaviour expectations apply on the bus, at bus stops, and during travel.

  • Students must respect the driver’s authority.
  • Remain seated, keep voices low, and avoid blocking aisles.
  • No smoking, yelling, pushing, fighting, bullying, or unsafe behaviour.
  • No extending hands, heads, or objects outside the window.
  • Drivers may report misconduct; serious behaviour may result in loss of bus privileges.

Expected Discipline on the Bus

  • Drivers may recommend suspension of bus privileges for repeated misbehaviour.
  • The Principal makes final decisions.
  • During suspension, parents must arrange transportation.
  • Drivers may remove a student only if safety is at risk.
  • All incidents must be reported to the Principal.
  • Bus vandalism may lead to disciplinary action.
